I’m sure you’ve all seen the “fix your profile” kinda posts on LinkedIn.
Well, they have a point.
You need a profile that is both clear and aligned with what you do.
And on the flip side, ignoring it is like telling the reader to “go away”.
In other words, it’s not only your first impression, but the best or worst impression as well, depending on how your set it up.
“So do I need to fix it?” Definitely.
”Is it easy to fix it?” Absolutely.
(I’ll show you the process bit by bit)
But there’s one thing you need to know…
A LinkedIn profile consists of many things. A headline, an About section, a banner, a featured section and so on.
But we’ll take care of anything that comes under text.
And this includes a headline and an About section.
So let’s fix your LinkedIn profile (with ChatGPT):
1. Print a PDF of your LinkedIn profile
For those wondering, here’s an easier way to do it:
Go to your profile → click on Resources → then Save to PDF. Or check the screenshot below!
This will give you a summary of your entire LinkedIn profile as a PDF.
After it’s downloaded, there comes the fun part…
2. Upload the PDF into ChatGPT
Why? We want it to analyze the profile and provide suggestions for what needs fixing.
Newsflash: You can now upload and analyze files even with a free ChatGPT plan.
So… after you upload the file, use a prompt like this:
This is my LinkedIn profile summary. I want you to analyze it all, word by word. After you are done with analyzing it, tell me "DONE" and I will ask you some questions regarding it.
ChatGPT will respond with “DONE.”
After that, start with providing commands. Ask for suggestions on the parts you need to improve and are not sure about.
For example, I asked for my headline.
Now, tell me if the headline is good or can be improved more. If yes, how can it be improved?
Here’s ChatGPT’s response:
Not so bad.
Let’s go a little further…
I want to focus on a niche brand. And also, I want to be as simple and easily understandable in my headline as possible. Suggest me some ways:
I like its emphasis on being niche. And that’s a pretty fair suggestion.
Now, we've got enough about the headline. Let's move on to the About section.
Good. Now tell me about my about section. Tell me everything that's wrong with it and how I can improve it.
The response is long but worth a look:
Thing is…
There might be a lot of questions that come to your mind after seeing this.
All I want for you is to know the mechanics of the matter.
If you have difficulty understanding or aren’t sure of a certain part of your profile, do this and ask for improvements.
Tweak the prompts anyhow you want.
