You won’t believe how many jobs I’ve applied for in 2021.
I was new in Canada where the job market was tough. But I still needed a job, right?
I’d meet my employment advisor and he’d always tell me to “apply for as many jobs as you can. One will work out eventually.”
I hated it. Tailoring each resume for each job application was a pain.
Well, it was more than a pain.
It not only was time-consuming, but also required so much focus.
(I wish I had ChatGPT at that time)
Because one of the best things ChatGPT can do is speed up writing.
Again, writing a resume faster is not the only thing you need to get a job. But it is a huge contribution to the process.
So if you or someone you know is in the process of applying for a job, share this email with them. They will thank you in the future.
Write your resume with ChatGPT:
1. Find a job listing
Any job you like. Copy the entire description of the job. You’ll need it.
You can find tons of jobs on:
LinkedIn
Indeed
Glassdoor
Etc etc…
I’m choosing LinkedIn for now.
2. Now extract key details
Start by copying this prompt into ChatGPT.
(You just need a free account)
“What important duties will you emphasize from the job description below if you respond like you are a professional in writing resumes who has more than 15 years of experience helping job hunters who want to land a job in [related field]?
Here is the job description:
[Paste the job description here]”
Don’t forget to paste the job description inside the prompt.
And once you hit Enter, you’ll see this:
Well, this isn’t the end.
Now, we start with building a resume exactly for the role we desire.
So here goes…
3. Tailoring your Resume
Go get your resume or find a resume template. I then want you to paste it into ChatGPT with this prompt.
“Considering these important duties, you just highlighted, tailor my resume for the [Target Position] role at [The Company Name]. Please avoid making up any information. You can also use the job description I already provided. Here is my resume:
[Copy & paste your resume/template here]”
You’ve already analyzed the job description. You now inject those details into your resume.
Once you input everything, you’ll see your updated resume.
*(Although this is a sample resume, I had to blur some parts for privacy)
The resume I uploaded was nothing of a finance industry, but it still tried to add certain keywords and details to tailor it for a finance role.
(As per the job description)
It changed parts the employer may find interesting about my background.
But let’s see what changed…
4. Compare the Differences
I’d love to have a peek of what it did to my new resume, in short.
So let’s ask what happened:
“Provide a list of differences made between the resume I gave you and the tailored one in a two columns table. List all the details, word by word, that was changed. Be very specific.”
And here goes a table…
This table shows everything ChatGPT changed.
If you want any more changes, simply ask for that specific part in the same chat.
You can also upload another job description and tailor a new resume.
The bottom line:
This will 10x the speed of your resume-writing.

And that’s it for today.
