Cold emails used to be the golden tickets.
Well, they still are. But not that golden.
They’re ignored, deleted, or even worse—marked as spam. And to be honest, I’ve also thrown many of them in the trash. I’m sure you did too.
The reasons can differ from person to person. But the stink of it comes from one of the following reasons.
a) The majority of cold emails lack personalization
You can’t email someone and say, “Hey {FirstName}, I came across your profile..."
(It reads so generic & is instant delete)
Plus, you seem desperate. Only there to sell. Nothing good to tell the reader.
Will you respond to that kind of email?
b) A lot of them have no real value
The one thing they do well is ask. But none actually give.
And as you may know… readers don’t owe you their time.
c) Using automations wrong
Some AIs send thousands of emails. They just hope someone will respond. Well, that’s very rare to happen.
d) A main issue… lack of trust
Yeah. I know you can’t build trust with one email.
But you actually can. As long as it doesn’t seem like “Hey Sami, I came across your profile..."
And I also know that writing each personalized email is not easy.
It takes time. Takes thinking. And research. But…
You can use AI to get rid of these excuses and write one that is both effective and efficient.
(Yup. It’s quite possible)
And here it is below!
1. Create a persona
“Why do I need this?”
To answer this question, first tell me why we need a persona when prompting AI!
(Like in “act as a…”)
Because we have to let AI know who we are and what exactly we want.
So you better specify yourself, along with your prospect (which I’ll show you in the next step).
And for this, you need to:
- Define WHO you are.
- Define WHAT you want.
- Define WHAT your offer is about.
- Define WHAT makes your offer special.
- Define WHY & HOW would the prospect like your offer.
Don’t make it fancy.
Just come up with simple and clear details that you think will help your email.
Then…
2. Find out about your prospect
You’re going to feed this to AI (ChatGPT). It helps AI write an email that is more personal to the reader.
Go find out about:
- The WHAT
- The WHO
- The HOW
- And ANYTHING you can about the prospect.
Research what your prospects like, and what they don’t.
You better know their preferences and the pain points they’ll possibly have.
And this takes us to…
3. Ask AI to write a cold email
Well, we obviously need a prompt.
And the prompt I’ve created for this is below.
I want you to write a cold email. Make it personalized based on the details below:
{Put anything here that you came up with in the 1st part (1. Create a persona). Define it well. The more details the better. And ask ChatGPT to act as the persona that you created}
I am sending this email to a prospect which is described below:
{Put anything you came up with in step 2. The more details the better. Also, what you want from the prospect/your goal}
I want you to follow the guidelines below when writing the email:
Subject line: Write in a causual tone. Add a benefit in the subject line. Capitalize all words. Be very simple in the language you use. Don't seem too salesy. Just chill.
Writing style: Simple, friendly, and bold language. Readable by a 6th grade student.
Body: Use the PAS copywriting framework.
Salutation: Hi CTA: I want the email to slowly drag the reader to click on a link, which is of our website where they can learn what to do next.
Signature line: Sami
Use the writing style explained below:
- Simple and bold.
- Easier language that a child can understand.
- Be straight to the point and don't be ambiguous.
- Focus on adding benefits to the writing.
- Be selling. But don't be pushy and salesy.
- Be friendly like you are talking to a friend.
- Avoid using emojis or hashtags.
And here’s it is, tailored and ready to go.
Of course, it’s better to specify the writing style you want. The more you emphasize it, the better.
Because this is how good an email it wrote:
No push. No bragging. Just plain persuasion with benefits and a focus on the prospect’s pain points.
I also love that it’s short.
A lot of cold emails are long and that cuts the chance of being read.
People don’t have time, especially for sales emails.
You can buy their time by being short, simple, to the point, and most important of all, by stressing benefits.
Then see how well you sell with emails.
Sami
P.S. If this has helped you, leave a like so that I know you actually read it.
And to those who share it with others, thanks from the bottom of my heart.👋
