Hi everyone,
Welcome again to Savvy Snack.
I have a lovely news today. Savvy Snack is on +300 subs now.
Thanks to every one of you for making this happen.
And I’ve come with some crispy snacks today. A common struggle we as writers face every time we write.
Writing savvy headlines.
Imagine standing in Times Square and seeing a bunch of ads.
Each ad says something that catches your attention.
They’re all headlines. They're meant to hook you. To get you to the next step—taking action.
They are not easy to write.
Writers and psychologists spend hours thinking about how to write headlines.
They spend more time on a headline than the rest of the ad or copy.
(It’s the first impression and it accounts for 90% of the attention)
Imagine having the best piece of writing but with a poor headline!
Readers will think the same about the rest of the writing. And not many people will read it.
Headlines are like the backbones of writing.
A lot of people pay ghostwriters to write catchy headlines. Ones that bring more traffic.
This is more true on LinkedIn.
My goal is not to take your money for a few headlines. Never.
Instead, I’ll show you how to write savvy headlines with ChatGPT—without even paying a penny.
But before that, tell me in short;
Are you creating content on any platform? If yes, which one? Let me know below.
OK… time to keep things rolling.
Here’s how to use ChatGPT to write killer headlines:
1: Gather your context data.
What’s context data?
It’s what you write about.
Is it a blog? A social media copy? A sales copy? or is it a video?
Bring up what you’re going to present in that content.
Here are a few things to gather:
A few headline samples you like. (If none, you can use mine)
The number of the characters in a headline. (it differs from platform to platform)
Who your target audience is.
Ok. After you find out all of them…
2: Use my Mega-Prompt.
Here’s the prompt. But before using it…
Fill the area in the brackets with what you’ve gathered earlier.
First, analyze this copy:
[Your copy or any text output]
Now, Generate 20 headline Ideas for the output above using the guidelines below:
Make sure each title is unique and varies in style and approach. Use different copywriting frameworks for each headline. Some frameworks are AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action), PAS (Problem, Agitate, Solve), 4Cs (Clear, Concise, Compelling, Credible), 3-1-3 (Problem, Solution, Market), and the 5 Ps (Promise, Picture, Proof, Push, (Call to) Action).
Show the benefits that can be extracted from any copy the headlines are used for.
Write each headline without a colon or subtitle. Avoid breaking it into two sections.
Take some inspiration from the headlines below but don’t exactly use their structure. I want you to avoid copy-pasting them. But you should use their structures. And also, use the structures from some of the best headlines online:
[Your headline ideas for inspiration.
Or you can use mine too which are below:
”How to learn a new language in just 4 weeks”
”7 steps to financial freedom”
”How this book improved my listening skill in 5 days”
"Live a longer life with these super easy workouts"
"How I won the best copywriter award practicing this one skill"]
I just want you to see how the benefit is used in those prompts above. I want you to just get inspired by the idea of using benefits in headlines.
Use power words in all the headlines you generate. I want you to search the web and find what the best power words are in copywriting and then use the ones that are relevant to each headline relatively. Also, try to use numbers in some of the headlines. All the headlines should be in different varieties.
The headlines should resonate with the pain points of the audience. They should also bring an emotional trigger for the reader.
I want you to use different formats, like “How-to”, questions, benefits, promises and others that you can think can be the best ones. I want you to generate these headlines in different formats. In one full sentence, just questions, question and answer, and many other formats that you can find effective.
Each headline should be limited to just [the limit of the characters in your headlines] characters. They can be less than this number but should not exceed that.
Target different audiences like [write who your target audience is. It can be more than one if needed].
Provide all the headlines in a numbered list format for easy review and selection.
Ok… I input this prompt. Here’s what I got:
(The version of ChatGPT I used here was 3.5)
I may have asked for just a few tweaks in the prompt but it’s better to tailor it as much as you can.
Ask it for a different amount of characters.
Change the styles, formatting, and frameworks. See what happens with different variations.
One thing that’s helped me a lot while writing with ChatGPT is trying more than once.
If you don’t like an output, give it another try.
Adjust the prompt every time you input and it will come up with a different output. It will be relatively better than before.
Try out this prompt the next time you write a headline.
I’d love to hear from you on how it goes.
Feel free to reply below or DM me.
Thanks for reading this email.
And see you in the next one,
Sami Sharaf 👋
