Yeah. You heard that right.
AI writing like you isn't always a good idea. It’s not for everyone. It’s not necessary.
And there’s a reason for that…
Everyone is not a writer.
Meaning, there are a lot of people who don’t fully know how writing works. And one of the reasons they may use AI is to get past this barrier.
Now, AI learns and follows a pattern.
Imagine someone trains AI on some text which isn’t actually a good piece of writing.
It’s going to analyze that writing and follow its pattern.
You’ll get an output similar to the writing you input. And in the end, you’ll hate the process.
And to be ok with this, is also misleading.
You stop trying to make it better while there are a number of alternatives to make AI write better.
I will show you some of them now:
1: Train AI on writings you admire
You may know a writer whose writing you like—like everyone does.
You must’ve liked their writing in a book, a blog, a social media post, or anywhere else.
If you know none, go find one.
You don’t need books for this. Just a piece of writing can work too. Then…
Hop on to ChatGPT or any other AI tool and use this prompt sequence:
I want you to analyze this writing. Know the writing style, word choice, punctuation usage, and everything that comes under what a writing sounds. Give me a whole analysis that explains everything in simple but detailed words.
Here’s the writing:
[paste the writing here]
AI will provide you with an broader analysis.
You don’t need to read or do anything special with that. All you need is to let AI follow that instructions and write anything you want.
For example, a prompt like this will work.
Now, I want you to write a blog about ‘why jogging is one of the healthiest exercises.’ Use the same writing style and rules which you came up with after analyzing the writing I gave you earlier. I want the blog to be in [amount] paragraphs and in [amount] words.
Boom!
You just built a writer you’ll like.
2: Ask AI to follow certain rules
Here, you can manually put some writing rules forward and let AI do the rest of the work.
This is simple but much more effective.
Some common rules are:
Using simple words
Using short sentences
Using active voice instead of passive voice
Avoiding adverbs
Using a tone specific to your audience
Using less 3 syllables and more 1 & 2 syllable words
Using less verbal adjectives and more verbs.
Using easily pronounced words.
Avoiding jargon
And the list can go on…
And to make it even easier, keep a checklist of these. That can include everything you want an output to seem like.
Then, copy paste that checklist every time you’re writing with it.
3: Ask AI to use the writing style of a writer
But wait! Not every writer.
There are only some writers whose writing style might be know to an AI tool. And they are the ones known to the internet as well.
For example, David Ogilvy is someone ChatGPT can find a lot about.
But Sami Sharaf? I don’t think it can.
Now, what to do?
Simply ask AI this:
I want you to search for the writing style of [the writer’s name] and find out how he/she writes. Then, write a blog about ‘why jogging is one of the healthiest exercises’ in exactly that writing style.
This is my favorite part of what AI can do.
(Cloning another writer)
There are unlimited ways to make AI write better. These were just a few.
Over time, I will bring you a lot more.
And… I’ll be signing off now!
P.S. I’ve never felt so cold. -20 °C and super windy.
Tried everything to hold myself for the photo haha😁…
