Most humans will try something, fail, then make a bad correction to fix the mistake, fail again, make another bad correction to fix the second bad correction, repeat until the entire project falls apart, then start over. This happens not only on the individual level, but on society and indeed civilization level.
Look at human history. One failed civilization after another until the present. We're barely out of the last one (WWII).
And now we're headed for the biggest civilization fail of all human history - WWIII.
Reminds me of Stewart Townsend's line in the movie "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" where, as Dorian Gray, he says: "I've lived long enough to know that empires crumble. There are no exceptions."
But you can tell that for almost everything a human can put their hands on. It's possible that some people will follow or build bad habits and create a bigger mess. Others can eat so much food that they become sick. So, should we blame habits and food, or the individuals who misuse them?
And in the case of civilizations, one of the reasons for their collapse is that they leave behind what helped them become a successful civilization and replace it with either something called modernity, inequality, or weak people in charge. And we can now see those very signs in the current state of our world. And this again comes down to not learning from your past.
And also not to forget, I'm not in favor of failure. I simply don't want anyone to lose it all with themselves if their efforts don't work the first or first few times.
There is an obverse to this.

I understand your point, Richard.
